An Architect’s commitment to sustainability starts with the question of whether a structure can be reused. An ethos of renovating is a more sustainable approach to design than to continually demolish and rebuild. Renovating helps us see what has gone wrong with buildings over time and reveals opportunities not taken in a structure’s past lives. This in turn makes us better designers.
